Step 1: Before Applying to the PTA Program...

The Application Window for the PTA Program is from December 01, 2024 - August 15, 2025.

  • Applications are due by March 1 and are accepted as space allows after March 1.
  • The Physical Therapist Assistant program starts in Fall semester.
  • “Pre-program” courses (shown in the program guide) can be in-process at the time you submit your application but you must be able to complete these courses by the time the program begins.
  • “Required” PTA-specific courses (shown in the program guide) can only be taken by students who have been formally accepted into the program.
  • Official program acceptance occurs only when all program entry requirements have been satisfied and the program has notified the student of their acceptance.

When you apply to become an LSC student, choose PTA as your major. If you change your major after you apply to LSC, make sure to meet with an advisor.

If you’ve taken classes for credit at LSC in the last 2 years, don’t reapply. If it’s been 2 years or more since you took a class, you need to apply to become an LSC student again.

Additional Requirements

  1. All PTA applicants are required to complete the most current Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) standardized Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) prior to application deadlines and release scores to LSC.
    1. Applicants must achieve a minimum ATI TEAS score of 58.6% to be considered for PTA program entry.
    2. If the applicant has taken the ATI TEAS test at another institution, please have the transcript sent electronically to LSC through ATI. LSC will not accept any paper copies of ATI TEAS scores.
    3. There is no limit to the number of ATI TEAS test attempts

Physical therapy volunteer experience

Students must complete a total of 40 hours of observation or volunteer work in at least two different physical therapy settings prior to starting the program. Priority is given to those who have this volunteer work completed by March 1.

Step 3: Notification and Next Steps...

  1. You will be notified within 2 weeks of receipt of your application materials. You may be placed on a waiting list.
  2. When your file is complete, you will be notified about your admission status.
  3. Acceptance letters for the PTA program will be emailed by May 1 for the following fall semester’s PTA courses. This is for formal program acceptance once you are no longer on the waiting list.

If you are formally accepted into the PTA program you will receive an acceptance letter followed by information about online orientation. You must complete the steps outlined in the acceptance letter to secure your seat in the program.

You will remain on the wait list until a spot opens. At that time LSC will contact you about starting the program. You don’t need to reapply as an LSC student.

Student Selection

The PTA program enrolls 20 students each fall. Students who complete all PTA pre-program requirements will be admitted to the PTA program as long as there are available seats in the program. Students are ranked on a scoring rubric that includes grades in required pre-technical courses, required general education courses, and score on the required Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) test. Job shadowing is also an admission requirement (described in Step 2).
