Policy 1A.11 - Lake Superior College Hours
Part 1: Policy
Building operation hours are set to match credit and non-credit academic schedules and create consistency for public access while being fiscally prudent in the setting of reasonable building hours.
Part 2: Definitions
Subpart A: Building Hours
Building hours are hours during which the building is open and available to the public.
Subpart B: Service Hours
Service hours are hours during which offices provide college services to the public.
Subpart C: Summer Hours
Summer hours are adjusted for building and service hours during the summer period of the year.
Subpart D: Break Hours
Term break hours are adjusted for building and service hours during the semester breaks of the academic year. Breaks begin the Monday following a semester’s end.
Part 3: Building Hours
Security staff will be on duty on the main campus all hours of the week that the building is open and available to the public.
Part 4: Service Hours
Subpart A: Setting Service Office Hours
Service office hours are approved by the college president. Guiding goals are:
- To serve the convenience of learners and provide access to partners in the community at large.
- To make college resources available to students.
- To provide consistency between departments, campuses, and educational partners.
- To consider the institution’s fiscal health in support of hours.
Subpart B: Specific Service Office Hours
Service office hours will vary depending on the primary mission of each office. Hours for offices serving students will be based on the academic schedule and the historic demand for services, with a goal of consistent hours across the college.

History
A revision to Policy 1A.11 and Procedure 1A.11.2 was required after MMB and the Minnesota State Board of Trustees rewrote their weather and short-term emergency closing policies to reflect the ability of many state employees to telework and continue working during weather-related and emergency closing events.
