Starting January 2018, Lake Superior College in Duluth, Minnesota will offer a six-month practical nursing program for recently discharged veterans with medic training and also for active duty individuals in the medic field. It is the first practical nursing bridge program of its kind to serve veterans in Minnesota.
“This custom-designed program allows veterans with medic training to earn a practical nursing diploma in six months,” said Deb Amys, LSC director of nursing. The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and the Minnesota Board of Nursing have approved this program for veterans. “We’re pleased to work with Lake Superior College on this initiative, helping vets apply their military medic training into a college diploma and a healthcare career,” said Dave Bellefeuille, director, Education and Employment, Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.

Minnesota veteran’s licensing exams are now fully reimbursable through the State of Minnesota, including fees for taking the TEAS nursing entrance test and the Minnesota Board of Nursing licensure exams.
Lake Superior College nursing programs graduate approximately 200 nursing students annually with a 2016 NCLEX pass rate of RN-93% and PN-100% on state licensure nursing exams. The majority of LSC graduates stay and work in the healthcare field in the Arrowhead region.
