LSC Clay Target Captures National Conference Title
Voss finishes seventh nationally among female competitors.

DULUTH, Minn. (May 15, 2024) – The Lake Superior College Co-Ed Clay Target team ran away with the USA College Clay Target League National Conference 3 championship with its best weekly total since week two this spring to win league title by nearly 300 points.

The IceHawks led all teams in week five scoring with 250.50 points to finish with 1,325.00 points for the spring. The University of Mary (N.D.) was second with a 1,037.00 points and Minot State University (N.D.) was third with 853.50 points.

Riley Voss tied for first in the conference and seventh nationally among female competitors with a season-average of 23.60 points. Voss and Ella Audorff each recorded 47 targets in the final week of competition. Audorff placed third in the conference among females with a season average of 23.20.

Andrew Johnson led all LSC competitors in the final week with 48 targets, including his first perfect 25 round of the spring season. Spencer Tietz also recorded a 25-straight for the fourth time this spring and finished with 46 targets. Jacob Jarvi registered 47 targets in week five and, in doing so, tied Tietz for first place in the conference standings among male competitors with a season average score of 23.90.

Johnson tied for seventh with a season-average score of 22.90 and Nick Boucher was ninth with a season average of 22.60.

Clay Target is a co-ed sport at Lake Superior College that competes nationally. The program, established in 2017, is guided by Head Coach George Pappas, who will be inducted into the Minnesota Trapshooting Association (MTA) Hall of Fame this June. Pappas has accumulated over 200 trophies in State, Satellite Grand and Grand American competitions. The team competes regularly at the Proctor Gun Club, only 15 minutes from the main campus.
