(Duluth, Minn.) -- Lake Superior College is partnering with Ascent Aviation to continue to offer the professional pilot program at LSC’s Center for Advanced Aviation. Ascent Aviation, a subsidiary of Lake Superior Helicopters, has been chosen by Lake Superior College after a comprehensive Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Pending approval of the Minnesota State Board of Trustees at the June meeting, the new agreement will begin this summer. By Fall Semester of 2022, the partnership is planned to have all of the current offerings and benefits of the program including the FAA approved 141 flight training and approval of the reduced hours ATP for our graduates in partnership with our commercial vendor. This new partnership will provide a tighter connection with the aviation business community and allow for new opportunities in career pathways for the graduates of the flight program.
“We have enjoyed a strong and successful partnership with Lake Superior Helicopters over the past several years, primarily on the helicopter pilot training side,” said Daniel Fanning, Vice President of Advancement and External Relations at Lake Superior College. “Under this new agreement, we will further expand our partnership to include the entire pilot program – both helicopter and airplane tracks. Ascent Aviation has demonstrated an impressive vision and commitment to serving our students, and we believe this move will make the program even more accessible, successful and sustainable for years to come. We want Lake Superior College to be the premier pilot training program in the region and are confident that Ascent Aviation are the partners who can help make that happen.”
“We are excited for the opportunities this new partnership brings to the program, and students, and are looking forward to seeing all our aspiring aviators this fall and for years to come,” said Ascent Aviation CEO Eric Monson. “We are thrilled to continue to grow our partnership with Lake Superior college and truly believe the sky is the limit.”
Once the contract is approved by the Minnesota Board of Trustees, Lake Superior College and Ascent Aviation will release additional and finalized details. The goal is to have those details in place prior to the Duluth Airshow on July 16 and 17. Lake Superior College and Ascent Aviation will be tabling at the Duluth Air Show in LSC’s Center for Advanced Aviation, Hangar 103, 4960 Airport Road. Until then, any prospective student interested in the professional pilot program is encouraged to contact Lake Superior College, [email protected], and/or set up a tour of LSC’s aviation campus at www.lsc.edu/visit.
