Students at Lake Superior College get the day off from regular academic classes in order to participate in a Student Success Day on Tuesday, February 11, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It's a day set aside each semester to support academic and personal success. It is designed to help students with career options, networking, personal success, wellness, civic engagement and more.
From creating a path to financial success or learning the fundamentals of throwing on a potter’s wheel to exploring plant-based regional agriculture and writing a resume, LSC’s Student Success Day offers dozens of sessions that are geared around four themes: Explore Careers and Transfer Options, Strategies for Success, Get Connected-Build Your Network and Personal Wellness. A ping-pong tournament and a snowshoe hike along Miller Creek are also choices for students to get active and social.
Student Success Day highlights include keynote speaker Shannan Paul at 11:30 a.m. who will speak on “Cultural Sensitivity for the Accidentally Insensitive.” She uses personal anecdotes and real world situations to teach the audience how to not be that person who walks blindly into an awkward situation. Her professional career started with working for Fortune 100 companies including Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America. Shannan Paul has also worked as a radio show host, actress, certified fitness instructor and is a proud former player of the Women’s Professional Football League.
