New and returning students at Lake Superior College have a couple opportunities to get a head start on preparing for spring semester at the upcoming 2022 Spring Semester Kickoff events. Traditionally, this has been a one-day event, typically on the Saturday before the semester begins, but this year a couple dates and times are being offered to make it easier for students (and parents/other guests) to safely visit campus in advance of the new semester.
Spring semester begins at Lake Superior College on Monday, January 10. Kickoff events begin this afternoon, Thursday, January 6, and continue on Saturday, Jan 8, at the following times:
- Thursday, January 6: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
- Saturday, January 8: 9 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
At these kickoff events, students can take care of several tasks while on campus including purchasing books and supplies at the LSC Store, finding their classrooms and other areas before the semester begins, making a tuition payment, getting their student IDs, meeting with an advisor to add or change a class, and in some cases even meeting their instructors and classmates before their courses begin. This often helps alleviate the stress of trying to do all of this on the first day of class.
“We encourage new students to visit us during Kickoffs if they have any questions, concerns or just want find their way around campus before that first day of the semester," said LSC Registrar Melissa Leno. "It’s often helpful to know where your classrooms and other key areas are before the semester begins so you can attend your first day and not have to worry about that sort of thing. We will have staff and volunteers safely spread out throughout campus to help assist students with whatever they need to do before school begins on Monday.”
Students are welcome to visit campus anytime, but these Kickoff events serve as a great one-stop shop to ensure staff are around to assist as needed. Masks are still required at all LSC campus locations and all spring courses that were scheduled to be on campus are still being taught safely on campus. Some additional online and hybrid options are also being offered, so students can choose whatever delivery method works best for them – based on availability.
For new students, there is still time to apply and register for spring semester. While some programs are already full, there are still openings in several programs and students can add/drop classes until the 5th day of the semester. Lake Superior College has waived the application fee so prospective students can apply for free at www.lsc.edu/apply. LSC also continues to offer scheduled on-campus tours.
