Lake Superior College Again Recognized for Student Voting
LSC is one of 471 colleges and universities recognized for efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation in the 2024 election.

Lake Superior College has been recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting; it was announced on Tuesday.

The ALL IN Most Engaged Campuses for College Student Voting recognizes colleges and universities for outstanding efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation. LSC is one of 18 Minnesota State institutions among a total of 471 colleges and universities nationwide recognized by ALL IN for completing four core actions:

"Lake Superior College is proud to be recognized once again for our commitment to civic engagement,” said Lake Superior College President Patricia Rogers. “Our Student Life team and campus community have made it a point to ensure students are empowered to make their voices heard. Thanks to all involved for making this recognition possible."

Previously, Lake Superior College earned a Silver Seal for the 2020 general election. Prior to that, LSC earned a Gold Seal for the 2018 midterm election and a bronze seal for the 2016 general election. The school also was recognized as a Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting in 2022 and more recently earned a Silver Seal for voter engagement during the 2022 midterm election.

The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase nonpartisan democratic engagement have higher campus voter registration and voter turnout rates. This year we saw more colleges than ever before step up their efforts to ensure that their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard at the ballot box,” said Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. “These Most Engaged Campuses are setting the standard for nonpartisan civic engagement work for colleges and universities across the country.”

Since the 2024-25 school year began, LSC produced internal marketing on voter resources and civil discourse ahead of the general election. That marketing included putting messages on the TV monitors across campus and in the classrooms, producing social media content, sending out information in student newsletters and holding campus events on National Voter Registration Day and on Constitution Day. The college also established a web site to further educate students on the process of getting registered and how to vote.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge empowers colleges and universities to achieve excellence in nonpartisan student democratic engagement. Campuses that join the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge complete a set of action items, with the support of ALL IN staff, to institutionalize nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation on their campus. The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge currently engages 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
