Brandon Peterson has been hired as the health and safety officer for Lake Superior College. Peterson will be responsible for developing and updating the college emergency response and crisis management plan, as well as coordinating emergency training. He will also develop a safety and hazardous waste program at the college and update a plan which meets the requirements of regulatory agencies including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Minnesota State system office, and local law enforcement and fire departments. He will also be responsible for producing an annual Clery Report, ensuring the college is compliant with local fire codes, and ensuring compliance for storm water run-off with the MPCA.
Peterson earned a master’s degree in environmental health and safety from the University of Minnesota Duluth. He recently interned as a safety engineer with Federal Premium Ammunition in Anoka, MN where he was responsible for creating and implementing emergency response plans, incident investigation, hazard analysis, exposure assessments, and other duties.
He holds a GSP (Graduate Safety Practitioner) certification and is working toward a CSP (Certified Safety Professional) certification.
