External Scholarships
If you received a scholarship separately from the Lake Superior College Foundation, here are some steps to take.
Where to bring your check or award letter:
Most often, organizations want to write your scholarship check to the college and not to you individually. The Student Payment Office can accept this check and apply it to your account. If you have an official award letter instead, the Student Payment Office needs a copy so they can watch for the check or complete any steps mentioned in the letter. You can do this in person or by mail. Be sure to include your LSC student ID number with the check or award letter.

When to bring in your check or award letter:
You should turn in any scholarship checks or award letters as soon as possible. Advance notice of a scholarship before a semester starts will secure your spot in your classes, keeping you safe from the Drop for Non-Payment Policy.
If you’ve submitted an award letter, but are waiting on a check:
If you’ve submitted an award letter, you would be safe from the Drop for Non-Payment Policy. However, you will want to contact your scholarship provider to make sure the scholarship check will be turned into Lake Superior College by the semester’s tuition payment deadlines. If your scholarship check will not be received by the tuition payment deadline, you may want to set up a payment plan with the Student Payment Office to avoid any late fees.
An award letter notifies LSC that scholarship money is expected. A scholarship check must be received for the payment to be applied to your account.
When will I know when my scholarship has paid on my account?
You will be able to review your payments in the Account Detail section of your e-Services. You can click on the green plus sign to the left of the designated semester to view all charges and payments. You can also click on the Adobe icon to open up a PDF view of the semester you’d like to review. Any scholarship amounts paid onto your account will have the date and say “Scholarship” or “Schol” with a payment amount.

Scholarship checks received before the start of the semester
Any scholarship checks received before the start of the semester will be applied to the balance due after the drop/add period has ended.
Scholarship checks received after the start of the semester
Any scholarship checks received after the start of the semester will be applied to the balance due within five (5) business days.
After the scholarship has paid on the account
If your scholarship doesn’t cover your entire balance due
If your scholarship payment covers some, but not all, of your balance due to Lake Superior College, make sure you have enough financial aid funding or a payment plan in place by the tuition payment deadline to avoid late fees.
If your scholarship pays for more than your balance due
You could receive a refund if your scholarship pays for more than what you owe Lake Superior College, if your scholarship provider allows students to receive any overpayments. Some scholarship providers will only pay tuition, fees, and books. Make sure you’ve selected a refund preference through BankMobile Disbursements.
