Apply to the Surgical Technology Program
Step 1: How to Apply...
The Surgical Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program starts once a year in Fall semester. Applications will be accepted beginning February 1, until the program capacity has been reached. Students who are currently in progress with prerequisites (Spring semester) may apply. Priority will be given to students who have prerequisites completed and apply by March 1. Program information sessions will be held during February, dates to be announced.
Before applying to the Surgical Technology program, be sure you’re an accepted LSC student and have completed all pre-program courses and requirements.

Declare Your Major |
Declare your major When you apply to become an LSC student, choose Surgical Technology Associate of Applied Science (AAS) as your major. If you change your major after you apply to LSC, make sure to meet with an advisor. |
Have you been an LSC Student Before? |
Have you been an LSC student before? If you’ve taken classes for credit at LSC in the last 2 years, don’t reapply. If it’s been 2 years or more since you took a class, you need to apply to become an LSC student again. |
Complete pre-program courses and requirements
Complete all “pre-program” requirements / courses specified in your program guide.
Review pre‑program requirements in the program guide including:
- English/reading
- Math
- Pre-program courses
- GPA requirements
Apply while attending pre-program classes?
Surgical Technology applicants may apply while in progress with pre-program classes. However, updated transcripts and supporting documentation must be provided to the admissions and records office before applications can be processed.

Step 2: Apply...
The LSC Surgical Technology program admissions process is competitive. It’s a separate process from becoming an LSC student. All Surgical Technology program applicants who complete minimum admission requirements by the application deadline will be considered for admission to the program. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission into the Surgical Technology program.
After you’ve completed Step 1, apply to the LSC Surgical Technology program.

Step 3: Next Steps
The LSC Surgical Technology Program admissions process is competitive. It’s a separate process from becoming an LSC student. Wait for notification of acceptance
You can expect to receive notification from LSC’s Surgical Technology department mid-March.

Accepted students MUST complete the required next steps by the deadline Accepted Surgical Technology students will be notified by email. Be sure to set up your LSC email account and check it periodically. You must complete forms and return to us as directed in acceptance letter to secure your seat in the program. Mandatory orientation sessions will be offered in June and July either on-campus or via Zoom. |
Not Accepted |
If you were NOT accepted, you can reapply during a future application period. You must complete the entire Surgical Technology application process again. You do not have to apply to Lake Superior College again. |
Step 4: Accepted Students...

If you were chosen to participate in the Surgical Technology program, complete the following tasks by the due date shown in your acceptance letter. You must complete these tasks by the due date to be guaranteed a seat in the Surgical Technology program.

The Surgical Technology program is accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting ARC/STSA.

Student Selection
Eligible students will be admitted to the program as long as there are seats available. In the event there are more students than seats available, priority is given as follows:
Students who become LSC students and have completed all pre-program requirements
- Eligible students who have applied by March 1
- Date pre-program requirements are completed
- Date of Surgical Technology application and program declaration
- In the event of a tie, GPA in pre-program courses will be used as a tie-breaker.
