The Medical Laboratory Technician program starts once a year in Fall semester. Applications will be accepted January 13, 2025 - Until Filled.

Have you been an LSC student before? If you’ve taken classes for credit at LSC in the last 2 years, don’t reapply. If it’s been 2 years or more since you took a class, you need to apply to become an LSC student again. |
Complete all “pre-program” requirements / courses specified in your program guide.
Apply while attending pre-program classes?
MLT applicants may apply while in progress with pre-program classes. However, priority is given to students who have completed pre-program courses. Please see student selection section below.

Step 2: Apply...
After you’ve completed Step 1, apply to the LSC MLT program. Applications are accepted: January 13, 2025 - Until Filled.

Step 3: Notification and Next Steps...

Accepted If you are accepted into the MLT program you will be notified by e-mail. You must complete the steps outlined in the e-mail to secure your seat in the program. |
Not Accepted |
Not Accepted If you were not selected or do not begin the program when you were selected, you can reapply to the MLT program during a future application period. You don’t need to reapply as an LSC student. |
Step 4: Accepted Students...
Once you are admitted, visit your D2L Brightspace website MLT Student Center for information and requirements. Always monitor and use ONLY your LSC email. We will not contact you by personal email.
Background Checks
The clinical practicum during your final semester in the MLT program requires you to complete the Minnesota Department of Human Services Background Study and the National Criminal Background. All details are on the orientation website. If you know of any history that will be flagged on your studies, you must address this early in the program to determine if you are eligible for clinical rotation and employment. background checks you must address it immediately.
D2L Brightspace MLT Student Center: Verification of Policy and Release of Information form (upload to D2L drop box and return original to director). MLT Policy manual signature form (upload signed form and return original to director) and quiz, Safety quiz, and Health Declaration form (upload signed form and return original to director).
Specific immunizations and a TB test are required for clinical practicum.
Please see the MLT student center for more information. COVID and FLU vaccines are NOT required.
Register for classes
Register for classes based on the list provided by the program director or your advisor. You should not register for classes without receiving a list of appropriate courses. You may not register for courses out of order. Courses must be taken in order. Only students officially admitted to the program are allowed to register for courses. Students registering incorrectly will have their registration removed.

Accreditation
The Medical Laboratory Technician program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS).
Student Selection
The MLT program starts each fall semester. Students may apply during the application period, if pre-program courses are completed or will be completed prior to the fall start. Students who become LSC students and complete all MLT pre-program requirements (including required GPA of 2.8 or higher) will be admitted to the MLT program. In the event there are more students than seats available, priority will be given to students who completed their pre-program requirements first. Students are ranked by when pre-program requirements are completed and their pre-program GPA. In the event there are multiple students who completed pre-program requirements in the same term, GPA in pre-program courses will be used as a tiebreaker. If there are multiple students who completed pre-program requirements in the same term and have the same pre-program GPA, GPA in biology and chemistry pre-program courses will be used as a tiebreaker.
